"Earlier this year my wife and I were blessed with our third child and soon after I decided I wanted to honour and thank her for carrying and caring for our children. I also wanted it to be a surprise for her.
I knew of Kate Smith Jewellery design from a mutual friend as my wife had often admired the items the friend wore that Kate had designed and made.
From this I contacted Kate with a very wide and vague requirement and from that Kate helped to guide my thinking. We agreed to meet, at the workshop in secret, I also roped in the mutual friend to bring a female perspective and hopefully help inform what my wife may like.
We managed to arrange a date to visit the workshop and spent an hour or so discussing what my options might be and how we would progress, after this meeting I had an idea of the design but there were some concerns about colours and style.
Kate provided some options, images and mock-ups of what the finished product may look like along with some guideline prices.
From this we had several telephone and email conversations to finalise the design. Kate was very collaborative and able to advise on what would work and what wouldn't, giving me the confidence to go ahead with the design and get Kate started on the manufacturing.
Throughout this process I had stressed that this was to be a surprise and we discussed the best way to present this, in the end I wanted to try and get my wife to the jewellery quarter to surprise her in Kate's workshop.
The day of our trip arrived and we ‘bumped into’ Kate in a cafe. As I said at the start we are aware of Kate and my wife recognised her and said hello to her. After a chat Kate proceeded to invite us to the workshop to take a look. We then surprised my wife with the ring, leaving her totally speechless. Kate was instrumental in the successful execution of this deception.
While we are thrilled with the rings and they are very beautiful, for me the process of getting to the finished product was also very important, and the whole journey with Kate was a joy. I would recommend her to anyone looking for something unique, personal and created with great care and attention. Whether this is for someone else or you are buying something for yourself I would recommend having a chat with Kate and looking at her website.
Unfortunately the discussions are now about what my wife would like next from Kate!!"

"On the 5th May 2019 my wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. I wanted to buy Jane a ruby ring as a thank you. Initially I called Kate and we spoke about my enquiry and the initial ideas.
Kate suggested she spend some time on some designs. She emailed three designs shortly after. We discussed the merits of each design and agreed an option. Kate sent me photo's of four stones she had selected and again we spoke on the phone and we both agreed on the choice of a particular stone.
